TM Canine Scentwork Community Event
Train your dog in scent detection with essential oils as part of the TM Canine Community membership.
Service Description
This program will help dog owners train their dogs in scent detection using essential oils. It’s perfect for those wanting to engage their dogs mentally and physically while improving their focus and problem-solving abilities. Participation is included in the TM Canine Community subscription: Membership Program ($10/month). Program Overview: - Frequency: Weekly training sessions. - Duration: 60–90-minute lessons. - Location: Different venues for in-person sessions (e.g., a local park or indoor training facility). - Group Size: 6-8 participants per session to ensure personalized attention. - Essential Oils Used: Commonly used essential oils for scent detection training (e.g., Birch, Clove, and Anise). Participants will receive a kit in the membership program. Program Goals: Beginner (Level 1): Focus on introducing essential oil scents, scent recognition, indication (alerting), and basic search patterns. Training occurs in low-distraction environments like indoor spaces or small areas. Handlers learn to read their dog’s behavior. Dogs can stay at this level for 4-8 weeks. Intermediate (Level 2): Build on foundational skills with more complex searches (multiple rooms, outdoor spaces) and distractions (food, noise, other dogs). Dogs develop scent discrimination and work longer search times. Search areas include cars, open fields, bags, and people. Duration can last 6-12 weeks before advancement. Advanced (Level 3): Dogs master scent detection in challenging environments (buildings, cars, crowds). They tackle advanced scent discrimination, timed searches, and moving targets. Handlers refine teamwork in complex scenarios. Duration varies, with ongoing practice through workshops or competitions. Each level includes assessments and certificates, with progression based on mastery of skills. How to Register: - For Membership: Sign up through the TM Canine Services app or website. If you register for a scent work lesson and fail to attend without canceling, you will be removed from the next class you register for. This policy is in place to ensure fairness, as spots are limited, and your absence may prevent another participant from attending. To reinstate your spot, there will be a $50 fee. We want to maintain a positive experience for all members and avoid repeat offenders. Thank you for your understanding!
